The Cox Capitol Theatre is proud to welcome Buddy Greene, Macon native and composer of the modern-day Christmas classic, Mary, Did You Know, back to Macon for a hometown Christmas concert!
As a young boy in Macon, Buddy first learned to play folk songs on the ukulele, then graduated to the guitar. Soon a band with neighborhood friends was formed (Buddy’s Buddies) and he quickly acquired a flair for entertaining. His early musical influences included Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Motown rhythm & blues artists of the late 60's, and the Allman Brothers Band, which later led him to explore many of the pioneers of bluegrass, blues, folk, and country music. At age 20 he began playing harmonica, and is currently regarded as one of Nashville’s finest.

Greene’s first big break came with an invitation to join country music star and actor Jerry Reed’s band, and shortly thereafter he and new bride Vicki Blum (also of Macon) moved to Nashville. After touring the country, recording, and making numerous TV appearances with Reed, Greene was given the opportunity to record an album of original gospel music which quickly brought him to the attention of gospel great Bill Gaither.

Through touring with the Gaithers and appearing on their Homecoming video series, as well as continuing to write and record his unique brand of gospel music, Buddy has built a solid reputation as a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and talented performer with a distinct southern flavor.

Buddy co-wrote “Mary, Did You Know?” with friend Mark Lowry, which has become a Christmas season standard recorded by well-known performers such as country greats Kathy Mattea, Kenny Rogers & Wynonna Judd, Reba McEntire, and Glen Campbell, Broadway legend Michael Crawford, and pop stars Clay Aiken, Mary J Blige, CeeLo Green, Natalie Cole, and Pentatonix.

Over the years Buddy has performed throughout North America and abroad. These days he’s usually in the company of one or more talented musicians, celebrating his musical roots and breaking new ground whenever possible.
